Broadside On: Voices from the Beverley Shipyard
Saturday 16th February 12 pm
Broadside On is a sideways look at the men and women who worked at the Beverley Shipyard during the heyday of the shipbuilding industry in East Yorkshire. It is a story told through words and song about the thriving industry on the banks of the River Hull where new ships would be launched broadside into the narrow river before being towed into Hull to be fitted out.
Using interviews with the people who worked there, Gordon Meredith brings those voices to life, capturing the energy and emotions of a workforce that designed and built some of the most seaworthy vessels ever to be launched. Following the success of Swinging the Lampat last years’ Stage4Beverley festival, Gordon once again dips into the archives to combine his love of social history, theatre and music in what is sure to be an entertaining and thought-provoking show.
