Guaranteed to be one of the highlights of Stage 4 Beverley's launch festival are the New York Brass Band, a New Orleans-inspired band. packing a powerful punch of relentless drums, rumbling tuba and wailing horns… nothing kicks a party into gear like the sound of a smokin’ New Orleans Mardi Gras Jazz Band

New York Brass Band is a powerhouse 7-piece, with a line-up of percussion, sax, trumpets, trombones and sousaphone. The band take its inspiration from contemporary New Orleans musicians, but have a repertoire that ranges from Marvin Gaye to George Michael, from Cee-Lo Green to Stevie Wonder, with some funky, gritty northern originals thrown in for good measure

Past performances include Glastonbury, Bestival on the Isle of Wight, Durham Brass Festival, Cork Jazz Festival, Le Tour de France, Monaco Grand Prix and, in 2014, all 7 summer cricket test matches.

They have also been booked for celebrity parties and weddings for Danny Jones McBusted, comedian Alex Brooker, Liam Gallagher and Jamie Oliver. In July 2016 the band was featured in the ITV show Surprise Weddings Caught On Camera.

THE SUNDAY NIGHT QUARTET

support

The quartet, formed in 2015, The Sunday Night Quartet, composed of four music students from the University of Hull, play a range of jazz music from well know jazz standards, through to modern jazz works.

The quartet also approach standards in more innovative approaches, re-imagining standards like Sugar (Stanley Turrentine), and Cherokee (Ray Noble). This has allowed the quartet to develop a sense of musical freedom, encouraging the improvisation to be taken with a laid back approach.

The quartet members have backgrounds ranging from Classical music to Funk, Jazz through to Latin music, allowing for a very versatile performance, with the group often performing as a duo or trio to suit a more intimate setting. The Quartet has gone from strength to strength, performing at charity, award and social events across the University.
